Team Delicious Animal has regretfully let the site go over the past 8 months or so. But we’ll be back soon! Consider this the official announcement that Delicious Animal will be back *very* soon and better than ever!
The relaunch is just around the corner!
Goose liver gum does not sound delicious
Posted by Jason at 3:18 pm
The geniuses over at Archie McPhee have come out with another wacky meat-flavored product… but this time, I’m not sure that it’s going to be a winner. Why not, you ask? Well, for one thing, when I think of bubble gum, I generally don’t follow with an epiphany saying “if only it tasted like the fattened liver of waterfowl!”

Of course, if you’re a huge fan of foie gras, this might be right up your alley! For $3.50 plus S&H you’ll receive about 22 gumballs to, um, enjoy I guess. Gumballs that taste like livers… I just can’t get over that. However, the back of the product tin is pretty hilariously epic:

Pleasant Chief Executive’s Planetary Rotation!

In honor of President’s Day, βurgerβusiness has compiled a list of hamburgers from different restaurants and locals which, in one way or another, are either symbolic of or similar to one of the 44 men to lead this great nation. The list starts with the Bis Burger found at Bistro Bis in Washington, D.C.’s Hotel George, in honor of the father of our country and first president; it ends with the Prez Obama Burger for the current POTUS, available only at Good Stuff Eatery in D.C. The full list can be found here. Here’s hoping you all have a wonderful President’s Day; go out and eat some tasty meat in their honor — it’s what freedom is all about!

And if you don’t live in the States, here’s to having a good Monday. Remember, Mondays are great days for eating meat (as are all days ending in -y)!

Bacon steak? Um, YES PLEASE.
Posted by Jason at 3:38 pm
Generally, bacon isn’t considered a meat you can slap on the grill. As we all know, while bacon is succinctly delicious, it’s usually too thin to really grill properly so you risk burning it or having it fall through the grill. If you’ve ever longed for a solution to this problem, fret no more! Introducing…
Bacon Steak Cuts!
While not actually “bacon steak” (sorry for getting your hopes up), this grilling bacon is cut much thicker than regular bacon at a 1/4″ thickness. Also, the company claims that due to the curing process for their product, it apparently has a full year’s shelf life (compared to the normal 120 day shelf life of bacon). While I’m not sure if that is accurate, who cares? You know this stuff wouldn’t sit long in your fridge! Fire up the grill and get your bacon on!
The thick-cut bacon is offered in both original and peppered varieties. You can either order them online for your convenience, or find them at the following local retailers:
Publix in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and South Carolina
Harris Teeter in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia
King Soopers/City Markets (Kroger) in Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico
Smith’s Food and Drug (Kroger) in Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Wyoming
Bashas Foods in Arizona and Nevada
Fry’s Food Stores (Kroger) in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico
The Defense Commissary Agency (DECA) top 130 stores in the continental U.S., Hawaii and in Japan and Korea
Ingles Markets in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia
BILO in South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia
Southern Family Markets in Alabama

TeeFury’s current shirt design honors the European version of the quarter pounder (at least, according to “Pulp Fiction”). If you’re a burger fan, this is definitely one shirt you’ll want to add to your wardrobe!

In case you don’t know how TeeFury works, each shirt is only available for one day, so if you’re interested in this one you need to hurry on over and place your order. This particular shirt only has about seven hours left until it’s gone forever, and at $10 plus shipping is quite a deal!

Mo bezon gumbo!
Posted by Jason at 9:17 pm
Way down deep in the swamps of Dixie lies the exotic Crescent City: New Orleans. The city is known for many things, of which food is high on the list. The creole cooking styles that originated there are known for being spicy, delicious, and including pretty much everything edible that could be grown, hunted, found, or raised near the city. One of the most famous (and most delicious) of these dishes has to be gumbo. The glory of gumbo is that it is one of those dishes in which the cook can deviate however desired and put his or her personal touch into it. While the basics are generally the same, no two gumbos are ever alike. Thanks to CNN’s Eatocracy, we can see how James Carver, a N’awlins native, makes his own gumbo; and boy does it make the mouth water. With Mardi Gras just around the corner, some bayou cuisine seems right appropriate!
I lived in Jackson, Mississippi for three years and one of the best parts of that experience was the fact that the New Orleans/bayou flavor and cooking style permeated up the Big River and over into “Chimneyville.” If you’re ever in Jackson, do yourself a favor and hop on over to Hal & Mal’s, off State Street; their famous gumbo is incredibly delicious, award-winning, and served every day! Just thinking about it makes me want to hop in my truck and start the eight hour trek just for a taste. Mmm, gumbo.
“The great dish of New Orleans, and which it claims having the honor of invented, is the gumbo. There is no dish which at the same time so tickles the palate, satisfies the appetite, furnished the body with nutriment sufficient to carry on the physical requirements, and costs so little as a Creole Gumbo. It is a dinner in itself, being soup, piece de résistance, entremet and vegetable in one. Healthy, and not heating to the stomach and easy of digestion, it should grace every table.” – William H. Coleman

Courtesy of the awesome meatophiles over at Epic Meal Time! Sure, the video is a couple of weeks old now, but if you haven’t seen it (heck, even if you have), it’s worth multiple viewings, preferably while you’re waiting on some meat loaf or pot roast to finish cooking.

BK extra long burgers coming to a store near you! …if you live in Germany.
Posted by Jason at 10:26 pm
If you live in Deutschland, you can head over to your local Burger King and select one of several triple patty “X-Tra Long” burgers now being offered for sale. The first triple burger is topped with chili cheese and jalapenos for a spicy kick. The second is called the X-Tra Long Rodeo Burger and comes with the full flavors of crisp onion rings and barbecue sauce.

Personally, I’m somewhat offended that these obviously mouth-watering burgers aren’t being offered stateside. Come on, King; hook me up.
I bet if I spoke German, I would’ve gotten more out of that commercial than the desire to eat a huge burger. While not quite as epic as the fabled Windows 7 Whopper from Japan, these should still satisfy the appetite of even the hungriest burger fan and aren’t a limited-time promotion.

TacoGate update: FREE TACOS!
Posted by Jason at 5:15 pm
Still reeling from the fallout of TacoGate, Taco Bell has announced they’re going to give away a free taco to the first 10 million people to “like” their page on Facebook. If you’re one of the lucky few to get in under the 10 million mark, you’ll be directed to a printable coupon that expires on 2/15/2011. So, hurry on over to Facebook and “like” Taco Bell ASAP! Team Delicious Animal can neither confirm nor deny that free tacos may or may not contain actual meat, but isn’t that a risk worth taking for a FREE TACO? Seriously, it’s a free taco, you know you want it.
Taco Bell’s Facebook page can be found here. While you’re over on FB, check out Delicious Animal’s page as well!

Also, you can now view a YouTube video from Taco Bell’s President and Chief Concept Officer (still the best title ever) Greg Creed discussing TacoGate, and read the full details of the taco meat lawsuit with the company’s response here. For those who visited the link last time I shared it, the statement was already there, but the video is new. Let me be the first to say that I did not expect a taco chain to be run by an Australian, although technically he is still from South of the border…

Meat Loaf, Bacon, and Polls
Posted by Jason at 4:55 pm
The good folks over at CNN’s Eatocracy are hosting a new online poll that begs the question: where do you find most of your recipes? I think this is a pretty valid question, and as an added incentive to bribe you into taking their poll, they offer up a pretty-good sounding recipe for bacon meatloaf. Shoot on over and check out the poll, and add that recipe to your repertoire while you’re at it!

It was a toss-up for me, because most of my recipes are hand-me-down family secrets, which if I let slip out would result in me being drawn and quartered. However, I also like to experiment and come up with my own recipes (I have a very high success/death ratio so far, I’m proud to report). In the end, I went with “I make up my own.” Don’t tell my family.

Thanks for this submission must go out to Allie, who prefers her polls medium rare, meat loaf optional.
